Why are so many diabetes education programs closing in the midst of a worldwide diabetes epidemic? In part, because most diabetes education programs lack a sound business plan. In addition, few educators have the business knowledge and skills to develop one. Or to take on other specific tasks that can reduce the vulnerability of essential diabetes education services in a challenging health care marketplace.

Help guarantee your program's long-term survival by attending this 2-day Intensive Course on how to plan and deliver a profitable diabetes education service. Topics include:

  • Who Moved the Cheese? Diabetes Education on a Changed Playing Field
  • Program Design and a Sound Business Model
  • How to Optimize Facility and Staff
  • Understanding Revenue, Expense and Profitability
  • Setting a Profitable Price
  • The Business Case for Program Recognition
  • Achieving and Tracking Outcomes
  • Contracting with Payers
  • Working with Industry

The workshop is taught by DMTC co-founders Betty Brackenridge, MS, RD, CDE and Kris Swenson, RN, CDE. Course texts are the 50+-page DMTC publication The Business of Diabetes Education and Spencer Johnson's business classic Who Moved My Cheese? Participants are guided in the development of a personal plan for enhancing the all-important business aspects of their education service. Includes guidance on incorporating business planning into programmatic decisions and the development of other program-specific tools and strategies.

Includes approximately 6 hours of required pre-work
Enrollment limited to 14 persons
