Are you satisfied with your ability to educate, communicate, motivate and engage people with diabetes? If you're not, you're far from alone. Working effectively with people with diabetes and other chronic diseases requires a skill set that few professionals possess.

If you'd like to do something about it, enroll now for this 2-Day Intensive Course in the methods of patient-centered care. You will join other professionals in an interactive, experiential learning format, exploring:

  • The Power of Reflective Practice: "Discovery Learning" for Professionals
  • How Vision Drives Method
  • Compliance: The Skelton in Education's Closet
  • Taking Group Instruction to a Higher Level
    • Efficient Assessment
    • Individualizing Care in Groups
    • Switching the Emphasis from Teaching to Learning
    • How to Make Time for Interaction and Experience

  • Experience and Reflect: Skills That Can Transform Practice
    • How to Engage and Excite
    • Teaching with Questions
    • Making Blood Glucose Monitoring the Patient's Tool
    • Nutrition From a Discovery Learning Perspective

The workshop is facilitated by DMTC co-founders Betty Brackenridge, MS, RD, CDE and Kris Swenson, RN, CDE. It focuses first on the assumptions and vision that drive how we work. Then participants move on to experience and reflect on specific teaching approaches used in implementing a patient-centered model of care. Texts for this course are the 50-page DMTC publication The Art of Diabetes Education and The Art of Empowerment, 2nd Edition by Bob Anderson and Marti Funnell, American Diabetes Association, 2005.
